Berlin, Germany

The Holocaust Memorial in Berlin consists of 2,711 concrete slabs arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field. Designed by architect Peter Eisenman, the memorial is meant to create a confusing and somber atmosphere, reflecting the disorientation and loss experienced during the Holocaust. The gray slabs vary in height and are set on uneven ground, encouraging reflection and contemplation. The site serves as Germany’s central Holocaust remembrance site.
