The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of those who served during the Second World War. The memorial features 56 granite pillars and a pair of small triumphal arches surrounding a plaza and fountain. The arches, one of which is depicted in the photo, represent the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of the war. The structure is beautifully crafted from granite, and inscriptions throughout honor significant battle sites and campaigns.
